2010 COP Report

Consistent with PRIMEX’s dedication to persistently espouse the principles of Global Compact, the firm is consistently expanding its areas of expertise to enhance its capability to assist in addressing various global concerns.

Lately, PRIMEX’s growing involvement in climate change is getting a lot of attention from various funding institutions. Climate change as defined by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is “a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods.”

It definitely is a global concern as people all over the world are currently making everyday choices that help the environment. No less than the PRIMEX’s President Ms. Elvira Ablaza has, in several occasions, been tapped by the ADB as Climate Change Strategy Development Specialist to assist in the development of a climate change strategy for the Pacific Region.

PROGRESS ON PRIMEX’S OWN INTERVENTION

PRIMEX relentlessly continue its effort to enhance internal capability to prevent and control Avian Influenza and H1N1 and increase its knowledge and database for the development of policies and strategies to minimize, if not stop, the spread of HIV/AIDS via enhancement of capacities of service providers and adoption of good practices/strategies on positive prevention among positive community support group.

Early this year, PRIMEX disembarked on the conduct of an “integrated HIV/AIDS behavioral and serologic surveillance” (IHBSS) Study and “Injecting Drug Users” (IDU) population estimation in Zamboanga City. The overall purpose of the IHBSS study was to generate data that will be used to determine the trends in epidemic and risk behaviors among the Mostly At Risk Persons (MARP) and to improve response to possible epidemic.

Its specific objectives were to quantify the magnitude of HIV infection in the area, particularly among the IDUs in Zamboanga City; understand how HIV is spreading among this high-risk group; and advocate for prevention and care services. The two sites considered were Barangay Mariki and Santa Catalina.

PRIMEX’s target is to reach around 80% of the population and be able to induce behavioral change of at least 60% of the population by 2011 to reverse the upward change in HIV infection. The status of the area is provided in the table below:

In implementing all its activities, PRIMEX’s commitment has gone beyond 100%. For this reason, a lot of its clients accepted the adage that the name PRIMEX is synonymous to EXCELLENCE. Lately, however, the word QUALITY is added to that phrase as it has just received its “seal of quality” and is now ISO 9001: 2008 Certified in Quality Management System.

In general, it adopts the corrective action process as a problem solving process, and the preventive action process as a risk analysis process to maintain its quality management system. As an ISO 9001 certified and compliant firm, PRIMEX makes sure that the consultants fielded in its projects are senior professionals with a commitment to quality and excellence and to every principle of Global Compact in our operations and internal outlook for a better world.
